How do
you know if you have allergies? Besides the obvious indicators of
household allergies such as sneezing, runny eyes, congestion, and
itching, there can be many other symptoms of allergies that the
average person would not attribute to allergies.
Here is a list of most of the reactions from an allergic reaction
triggered by environmental factors, household allergens, and food
allergies:
|
| Sneezing,
often accompanied by a runny or clogged nose |
Inflamed skin |
Hoarseness or change of voice |
| Coughing and/or postnasal drip |
Welts or hives |
Chest Pain and Tightness |
| Itching eyes, nose, and/or throat |
Swelling of tissues such as lips or joints
|
Feelings of Warmth and Flushness in the
Face |
| Allergic shiners |
Loss of consciousness |
Cramping of the uterus |
| In children: persistent upward rubbing of
the nose that causes a crease mark on the nose |
Anxiety |
The feeling of having to urinate |
| Watery eyes |
Headache |
Sweating |
| Conjunctivitis |
Nausea and Vomiting |
Confusion |
| Breathlessness |
Abdominal cramps |
Difficulty Concentrating |
| Difficulty inhaling and exhaling |
Diarrhea |
Short Term Memory Loss |
| Wheezing |
Low blood pressure |
|
| Red, itchy skin |
Convulsions |
|
|
The list is quite vast and many of the other these symptoms are
associated with many other illnesses and disease. The first thing to
do is not rule out that having allergies may be causing you to be
uncomfortable, physically and mentally, beyond the sneezing and
coughing. Talk to your physician and express to them that you think
that you may have allergies. Rather asking for a prescription for
some of the most common antihistamines, such as: Flonase, Zyrtec,
Singulair, Claritin, Allegra, Rhinocort, Beconase, or Nasacort; ask
for a referral to have a blood test taken.
